Not Very Fun
The graphics are great, but the story is poorly told and the gameplay just isn’t very satisfying. I seem to be alone in a sea of positive reviews—and I do see the appeal—but I really wish this game was more fun. I played with a 360 controller, by the way, which worked flawlessly on my Mac Air.
I think the reason I didn’t like it is because battle is not strategic in the way it should be. It’s both chaotic and formulaic, and feels like you’re grinding through enemies just to move forward to the next set of enemies. The best games knows how to “hide” this feeling.
The quirky presentation was an interesting experiment, but it didn’t work for me. It’s more of a gimmick than a benefit to storytelling, and I felt like the narrator kept referencing people and places I’ve never heard of…
The presentation is very polished, but underneath is a pretty shallow game. I couldn’t even tell much of a difference in battle when I applied enhancements to my weapons. All in all, I think this game is more for casual gamers than hardcore gamers. Oh, and I hate how the ground is placed in front of you as you move forward. It’s distracting.
